Introducing Our new MnBS Board Members:

Darryl Young is a licensed Special Education Teacher specializing in Learning Disabilities, with over 20 years of experience supporting students in Minnesota’s at-risk programs. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication, with an emphasis on group dynamics, from the University of Minnesota and completed graduate coursework in Special Education. 

Darryl is known for his innovative, experiential approach to education, integrating music, culture, and real-world learning. He is the founder of the Mississippi Delta Blues Camp, an initiative that empowers youth through blues music and agriculture. A proud son of the Great Migration, Darryl is committed to preserving cultural heritage while creating opportunities for the next generation. 

Katie Kildahl is a Minnesota-based mom, grandmother, advocate, entrepreneur, and community leader with a background in psychology and business.

Raised in Minneapolis, she carries a deep love for blues culture rooted in her family history and lifelong connection to music. She is passionate about community, inclusivity, and keepin the blues alive! 

The Road to Memphis competition will be held on April 26 at the Blues Saloon in St. Paul for bands, solos or duos who are Interested in competing for a chance to represent MnBS at  the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2027.  Each year the MnBS chooses one band and a solo or duo to represent us at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis the following year.

Applications are due on April 10, 2026.
